Best RENNSPORT Settings for Thrustmaster TX / T300
RENNSPORT was recently released in an Open Beta phase. It's another serious simulator, along the lines of Assetto Corsa Competizione or Automobilista 2. It has a very good physics model and just as good force feedback to go with it.
The Thrustmaster TX and T300 work very well with it. The force feedback conveys a lot of information and it rarely clips. The developers have done a very good job on this. The default settings are little heavier than I like, but that is easy to fix.
In this guide, I will show you how to adjust the settings in the Thrustmaster Control Panel and in the game itself to get the best experience with a wheel.
Thrustmaster Control Panel Settings
RENNSPORT automatically sets the proper steering angle for each car, so it is best to leave the rotation set to the maximum in the Thrustmaster Control Panel and calibrate the wheel in-game.
Setting | Value |
---|---|
Rotation | 900° (TX) 1080° (T300) |
Overall Strength of all forces | 100% |
Constant | 100% |
Periodic | 100% |
Spring | 100% |
Damper | 100% |
BOOST | Off |
Auto-Center | by the game |
Spring and Damper are not used by RENNSPORT, so the value actually doesn't matter. Some games require these to be on for their force feedback to work, so I keep them at 100% as a general rule.
BOOST should always be turned off. For an in-depth look as to why, see my BOOST Force Feedback Analysis.
RENNSPORT Settings
In Options > Gameplay > Assists:
Be aware that all assists are disabled by default except for Counter Steering, which is set to Medium for some reason.
In Options > Controls > Basic Steering > Wheel & Pedals:
RENNSPORT will automatically recognize these wheels and apply the correct settings. For some reason, though, you still need to manually bind the upshift and downshift paddles.
In Options > Controls > Force Feedback:
Setting | Value |
---|---|
Forces Strength | 95 |
Invert | No |
Filter | 2 |
Sensitivity | 100 |
Minimum Force | 3 |
Tick Rate | 200 |
Forces Strength is the overall strength. There can be a little clipping if you set this to 100, so it's best to keep it a little lower.
Invert needs to be set to No for these wheels.
Filter smooths out the force feedback. You can keep this quite low. If you find the road texture feel annoying, you can raise this to get rid of that.
Sensitivity will raise or lower the lighter forces. If you raise this above 100, the lighter forces will be strengthened. If you lower this less than 100, the lighter forces will be weakened.
Minimum Force sets the minimum strength of any force. These wheel can't reproduce tiny forces, so raising this a little will make those forces able to be felt.
Tick Rate is how often the wheel updates the forces per second. I couldn't feel a difference between 200 and 400, so I leave it at 200.
Conclusion
It's still way too early to know if RENNSPORT will be a good full game, but it certainly seems to have some solid underpinnings. I'll be very interested to see how it develops.
